Dr. Peter Chan M.D., C.M., M.Sc. F.R.C.S.(C)., F.A.C.S. is the Director of Male Reproductive Medicine at the McGill University Health Center. Dr. Chan has been involved in Andrology basic science research on epididymal sperm maturation since 1988 at McGill University. He received numerous national and international recognitions, including First Prize in Fundamental Research and the Annual Urological Research Award of the Canadian Urologic Oncology Group; Best Video at the American Society for Reproductive Medicine Annual Meeting; First prize in Audio-Visual Award at the American Urological Association Annual Meetings; First Prize of Scientific Research Presentation from the Quebec Environmental Health Research Network and Clinical Diagnostic Award from the American Society of Andrology (ASRM). He has been serving as Principal and Co-Principal investigator for more than ten research grants funded by the Canadian Institutes of Health Research (CIHR) focusing on various aspects on men’s health including the impact of cancer therapies on sperm chromatin integrity, male fertility restoration strategies using spermatogonial stem cell, and the impact of environmental toxins on male reproductive health.
He is currently the President of the Society of Reproductive Surgeon of the ASRM. He has previously served as member of the executive committees of the Urology Certification Board of the Canadian Royal College of Surgeons and the American Society of Andrology (ASA). His contribution to various academic societies includes his service as an executive member of the Awards Committee, Development Committee and Program Committee of the ASA. He has previously served as an executive member and the scientific program chair of the Society for the Study of Male Reproduction (SSMR). In addition, he has been serving as a faculty member of the post-graduate programs of the SSMR, ASA, American Urological Association and ASRM.
Dr. Chan is a four-time recipient of the Everett C. Reid Award of Excellence in Teaching in Urology at McGill University. In 2013, he received the Outstanding Contribution Award from the Prostate Cancer Network Canada for his work in promoting men’s health. Dr. Chan has published over 80 professional journal articles, book chapters and videos. He is the senior editor of a textbook entitled “Reproductive Medicine Secrets” and the second edition of “The Andrology Handbook” published by the American Society of Andrology. He is also featured in “Doctorology”, a television documentary produced by the Discovery Channel on the various medical subspecialties.
